April 21, 2023 - Fly Home From Alaska

After the zoo, we had a nice dinner in Anchorage, then Maggie and Beau dropped us off at the airport for the long flight home.  We would be flying through the night, arriving at Baltimore in the morning.

checking out the snow-covered mountains from Ted Stevens International Airport.

It was still light when we took off.

That's Cook Inlet at right, and Knik arm at left.  The tall buildings in Anchorage can be see at middle left, just above the Knik Arm.  The Ted Stevens is on the peninsula sticking out into Cook Inlet, just under and behind the winglet.

Close-up of Red Stevens International Airport.  The seaplane airport, Lake Hood, is clearly visible at left -- it's all white.

As we head west, we get a good look at the other big Alaskan airport:  Merrill Airport.

A better look at Merrill Airport.

Just to the east of Anchorage are the Chugach Mountains.

Wow!

That's some rugged country.

Some of Turnagain Arm is visible running left to right in the center.

Prince William Sounds starting to come into view.

Prince William Sound.

That was it.  It got dark.  I went to sleep (if you can call it that).  When I woke up it was daybreak and we were over civilization.  Also known as Chicago.  (if you can call Chicago civilized, LOL)
